What The Fur 2013
So, it isn’t even a month since touching down in Montreal and already I’m at a fur con :P The con I’m at this weekend is What The Fur, Montreal’s local furry convention. A few things were going on in the morning, but I was rather worn out from a long week of work and housing drama so decided to attend after lunch. Managed to catch the Fursuit Hockey just as it was...
Montreal: A new chapter
So, I’ve just moved to Montreal last week, and it’s been the usual pain-in-the-rear issues of setting up new bank accounts and house hunting. I’d some drama for the latter, but this post is about furs in Montreal.. Now, for those of you who don’t know, Montreal, part of the province of Quebec, has French as the main language there, though most people are billingual. Only...
Furries and Fursuits in February.
It has been a long while hasn’t it? A combination of being sick and work schedules meant the inability of this wolf to attend furmeets with any regularity. Till yesterday. Yesterday’s meet wasn’t the most crowded I’ve been at, but the amount of fursuiters at this furmeet has to be one of the tops I’ve attended so far. As with every meet, the staff are on hand...
The onset of winter
The last few weeks have seen the temperature drop rapidly, heralding the winter soon to be upon us. The change in the seasons also brings with it later sunrises and earlier sunsets. The overcast autumn sky, together with the general decrease in light seems to have thrown off my metering this fine day, as I was pushing up rarely used iso settings. The white balance also seemed a little off,...
kannakurono asked: Hello! I'm planning on making my friend a fur suit, but I've never made on before! Any tips?
Raaain! Wash away my sorrow, take away my pain...
It’s been awhile! Didn’t attend the last meet as I was recovering from a major bout of illness. Today though, I had a difficult time leaving the flat as the weather seemed meh, but I did want to chat with my furiends, and took out the slr in case it rains, as my baby has gone through more than a bit of rain. The walk was very good at the start, clear skies and all. We had this...
Hip to be a square!
Woke up this fine day, and noted that… it was overcast <grin> Given that the dynamic range is going to be relatively low (and frankly, I’m a bit sick of running around with my slr because I really need to get the lens barrel repaired, buy a new lens hood and get the af sensors recalibrated) - it’s time to bring out the off-shoe flash, engage 1:1 aspect ratio on the LX5...
It's olympic season!
Awesome fursuit, is that not?! Ok, well it obviously ain’t. Earlier today was another LondonFurs furmeet, and I popped down somewhat late due to some projects back home. Blackfriar’s Tube is now complete, and with that there are some new routes the fursuiters are taking to get to the area in front of the Tate. I actually skipped the first half part of the walk and met the...
It's the LondonFurs Summer Paaartaaay!
It’s the London Furs’ yearly summer party! And our dear organizers know how to set up a great location, the Agenda Bar right in the heart of the city. The summer (and xmas) parties do draw alot of furs from all over the country, and there were some that made it from Sweden (waves hi to neweinstein!) as well as Singapore! Our fursuit walk for the summer party was rather short,...
Delft: A weekend trip
I’ve always wanted to check out one of CodyDawg’s meets, and the timing this time was just perfect, as I could not take time off for an extended tour - leaving Friday night by boat (StenaLine), I arrived in Hoek Van Holland, Haven at about 7am in the morning. A half hour train ride brought me to Rotterdam, after which I transferred onto another train that took me to Delft, a short...
Fursuits in London
Perfect weather for a london fur meet today, and just as the main organized fursuit walk was to head off, I was pulled aside by a blue bunny asking if I was heading out with the main group, or if I wanted to join a few fursuiters on small walk nearby. Some hesitation was going on, but I decided to break off from the main group. Tons of photographers with ‘em anyways. Didn’t...
Confuzzled 2012 is the largest furry convention in the UK, and this is the first furry convention I stayed for the full length - arrived a day early in fact. For those that do not know me I’m an introvert. On a scale of one to ten I probably rate a 12. And the excuse I give when things get too…. noisy at a LF meet, and the last two LF meets have been very noisy, so much I just left...
blind-dog asked: Beautiful shots you have! You live around some entertaining fursuiters and capture their performance very well!
18th March 2012
Has it been 3 months since my last post? Well I need to fix that… The fursuit walks have been canceled recently (or not - I don’t keep up with the forums) - and I was not expecting to grab any shots. Surprisingly, there were still a fair number of suiters prancing around for most of the meet. It is also very nice to once again see some of the older, more experienced (read -...
12th November - Furries, fireworks
Today in London, is the Lord Mayor’s Show, which meant that the area around our furmeet and fursuit walk was jammed packed with crowds waiting to see the fireworks. Minor mishap happened today, flash decided to die at the start of the walk >.> This is my 2nd flash in 2 years, am I really overworking my flashes? Uh, yes. Bit annoying as I don’t want to rely on my on-board...
1st October - has it been that long?!
So the weather has been conspiring against us photographers and fursuiters, and on this really, really hot day in October, we get a chance to go on a new route. Today’s got to be a new record for me, shot 29 shots in total over 1.5hrs, and some I thought were good turned out to be not so good in review. So, only kept 5. Well, 6 actually but the sixth I deemed to be quite personal for the...
30th July - Summer Paartaaay!
It’s that time of the year again folks! The London Fur’s Summer Party! Furs, new and old congregate at the Agenda Bar, in my opinion, a top choice by the LF committee. Two thumbs up! (The location may be bettered if there were wild wolves running around hunting deer, but I digress) As with the LF parties, they bring out fursuiters, new, old and rarely seen. I am pretty sure...
9th July - the weather finally lifts!
I’ve been not having a good time doing photography of any sorts lately, it’s obvious I’m uber burnt out from trying to push limits, and you know what? I feel so much better just not caring about trying to move off my plateau, and just shoot from what my gut tells me. The lack of updates has been a combination of two factors: Mainly, London’s weather not co-operating...
It's been awhile! 16th April Fursuit walk!
After a long 6 weeks without some cute cuddly fursuit photography, I’m back with a vengeance! In the downtime, I’ve been trolling London with my LX5, shooting almost exclusively in the square format. According to Michael Freeman (The Photographer’s Eye: Composition and Design for Better Digital Photos), the Square format is a difficult format to use, when compared to 3:2 or...
Review, fursuit walk 5th March 2011
So after having two months worth of shooting with the LX5, I decided to jump on back to the SLR. In order to get full iTTL off shoe flash, I bought a very nice 1.5m extension cable from Calumet. It’s not on the website, but not only is it a good length, the termination port allows connection for up to 3 iTTL flashes. Woo! In practice, TTL is a godsend, especially iTTL. Fuss free well...
More square action today!
Ozone! Another month, another fur meet! As before, I brought out my Panasonic LX5, YongNuo flash triggers and a Niko n SB-28. In between this meet and the last, I’d spent alot of time shooting at events, street, and generally using the LX5 as my main camera. In fact, my D300 hasn’t seen *any* action since I got my LX5 :-/ Spider cat! I’m spider cat! Does this mean...
Mind Juice: Hyperfocus with the Panasonic LX5
After yesterday’s experiences, I’m now looking at hyperfocal distances with my LX5. As usual, there is one website to the rescue: http://www.dofmaster.com/dofjs.html For my DX dslrs and my 16-85VR, I’m usually at 2meters, F8 - this gives a highly acceptable dof from about 3 feet to infinity. Of course, not everything is “sharp” and when pixel peeping, it’s...
London Furs: 22nd January 2011 Fursuit walk
It’s been a long six weeks since the last time I had a chance to prance around and photograph fursuiters, and today is the very first fursuit walk of the year :D New year, new toys, and my acquisition over the new year is a Panasonic LX5. My main reason for getting this camera is to have something to bring about everywhere I go, as even the smallest of the Nikon slrs will never ever fit...
LF Xmas Party 2010: Unexpected fursuit walk
So yesterday was the LondonFur’s Xmas Party, and being the introverted wolf I am, braced myself for a glut of people. It wasn’t too bad, except that with my major jetlag, was already feeling sleepy around 4pm :-/ Evidently people were arriving just as I was leaving, and missed out one some fab fursuiters. Oh well. Pixel Bunny F2.8/50 @ 1600, EV +0.7 We were also told beforehand...
London Furmeet 20th November 2010
BANG! So today Noah (above) was at the meet, toting his nerf gun AND going on the walk. Sweetness! It’s late November in the UK, which means short days and really cold nights. With the light not actually very strong at midday, it means ramping up our ISO values in order to get proper shutter speeds even with the lens wide open. Case in point, the usual time to leave for the fursuit...
Well then, a few cursory checks, I think it’s time to go. Ladies and gentlemen, let me present to you, http://www.fursuitphotography.com
Almost ready to go!
All the galleries are set, should be ready for a launch tomorrow evening (the 9th of Novemeber), perhaps about 8-10pm GMT :D Looking forward to sharing some of my favourites, and some unseen stuff, as well pondering what kind of drama this may cause lol.
